Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Júnior came through the youth academy at Uniao Barbarense . He was spotted by scouts who took him to the capital where he subsequently joined Sao Paulo FC, at the age of 13 in 2004. He went on to make his professional debut in 2008.

Oscar didn’t join Internacional after a contractual dispute with his former club São Paulo, with Oscar’s agent claiming that the club had not paid the salaries that they had promised Oscar. Consequently, Oscar’s representatives argued that his contract with São Paulo was null and void whereupon Oscar joined Internacional as a free agent. São Paulo continued to claim that Oscar belonged to them and lodged legal appeals which would prevent Oscar from playing for Inter in vital Copa Libertadores fixtures before a settlement was agreed upon between São Paulo and Internacional on 30 May 2012.

His first season for Internacional was plagued with injury but the in the 2010 one, he scored and assisted 13 times in 44 appearances.

Barcelona, Milan and Chelsea were after him, but on the 16th of July 2012, Chelsea agreed a fee between 20-25 million wih Internacional. On the 21st of the same month, Oscar confirmed that he had a medical at Chelsea while playing for Brazil in the London Olympics. Chelsea then announced it officially on the 25th of July. Oscar was handed the number 11 shirt previousy worn by Chelsea legends Denis Wise and Didier Drogba.

On 19 August 2012, Oscar made his debut for Chelsea by coming on in the 64th minute for Eden Hazard at their opening game of the 2012/13 season against Wigan Athletic.
