Chelsea Football Club has been praised high and low this summer for their dealings in the transfer market this season. Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Loic Remy were just the deals the club needed to compete at the highest level this year, and these were achieved without stressing the deep moneybags of Roman Abramovich. Jose Mourinho managed to balance the books with the sales of David Luiz to PSG and Romelu Lukaku to Everton, both for heavy chunks of money. Jose even took harsh measures to ensure that the players whom he does not trust with to lead the club to silverware this season were also offloaded to lighten the wage bills at the club.
Two of Chelsea’s legends, Dave Beasant and our beloved Gianfranco Zola were the most recent ones to heap praises on the transfer policy carried out by Jose Mourinho this summer. Here’s what they had to say:
Dave Beasant said:“The two singings they brought in [Costa and Fabregas] I think was the best money spent in the transfer window,
And Courtois coming in goal, ahead of Petr Cech, means he’s got to perform every week.
I think it was the time to bring him back [Courtois]. He’s just won the Champions League so he’s played at the highest level.
Cech’s performances during his time at Chelsea have been phenomenal, but you’ve got to start looking to the future, and Courtois is the future.”
Gianfranco Zola also had similar views to share: “They are two very good signings, so far they look like it. They have been the perfect match for this club. Frabregas gives a certain type of fluidity to the club, and Diego Costa looks like the early Drogba. It’s looking good, although it is a long way, and there are a lot of challenges for them. They seem to have all the equipment to be successful this season.”
