Chelsea have officially completed the transfer of Augsburg left-back Abdul Baba Rahman after losing Brazil international Felipe Luis to Atletico Madrid this summer.
This was made known by Chelsea official website that, the 21-year old star has finalize a deal to move down to Stamford Bridge in order to compete with both Azpilicueta and Ivanovic for a starting line-up.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho has hinted that the Ghanaian left-back could push Azpilicueta to his natural right-back while he will take over the left back position. This invariably means that Baba is coming in to replace club assistant skipper Ivanovic, who has struggled in the last two games especially with fast pace winger.
‘It’s important because he’s a left-back and he can compete with Azpilicueta. At the same time, Azpi can also compete with ivanovic for the right-back position. Said Mourinho.
The young star also expresses his joy and his desire to play for his new club by saying:
‘I am very happy to sign for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, and I can’t wait to train with my new team-mates and very much looking forward to working with them and Mr Mourinho.
‘I am also looking forward to having the opportunity to meet the fans as soon as possible.’
Baba made more successful tackles than any other player in the Bundesliga last season.
