The controversy between Chelsea goal machine Diego Costa and Arsenal centre back Gabriel Paulista looks like an issue that would not come to an end anytime soon, with every football fan and sport pundits around the world stating their stance on the issue.
Although Arsenal have won the appeal against Gabriel sending-off at Chelsea but it is worthy to note what Newcastle legend Alan shearer thought on the issue since Chelsea will be playing his former team this weekend.
It will be recalled that it was Newcastle United that stopped Chelsea’s unbeaten run last season when they defeated them by 2-1 at their home stadium.
Shearer believes Costa display on the pitch is just a way of winding up defender which is fair in games.
“I would describe him as an aggressive wind-up merchant,” Shearer wrote in The Sun
“Winding up defenders is fair game — it happens, whether you like it or not.
“Central defenders try to kick you and Costa is turning it around and doing the same.
“You try to get one step ahead of the game and stand up for yourself.
“You let the defenders know that you won’t be intimidated and they can’t kick you. But he is treading a fine line.”
With this statement by shearer, am pretty sure the Magpies would be mindful of Costa antics in this weekend EPL clash in other not to get the better side of them just as what happens to Arsenal.
Shearer is arguably one of the best strikers the English Premier League has ever seen, scoring a total of 379 goals in 734 appearances during his playing days.
