That Chelsea need another centre back is one thing all pundits and Chelsea fans agree on. And it seems Jose Mourinho also agrees hence the links to Everton Star John Stones who is reportedly seen as a long term replacement for ageing John Terry. However, with Everton insistent on getting maximum value for their player, Chelsea seems to have been forced to look elsewhere for a long term replacement for their soon-to-retire captain.
One player who Chelsea may be signing as a John Terry replacement is VfB Stuttgart’s centre back Antonio Rüdiger. Earlier in the summer, Rüdiger was linked with a move to Arsenal with reports claiming the gunners are keen on signing the young German international as a replacement for another German Per Mertesacker.
Whatever happened to that deal we do not know but if daily express are to be believed, Chelsea may be set to complete the signing of the powerful ball playing centre back in a deal said to be in the region of £20 million.
Standing at 6 feet 2 inches tall, Rüdiger is one defender Chelsea could do with in their team and at just 23 years of age, he will be ready to play a bit part role for now and then take over from John Terry. At his age, he still has at least 7 years of top flight football in him and with Terry still around, he can learn his ropes from the Chelsea and England international
Although being an home grown player, John Stones will serve Chelsea better ( Chelsea needs one or two players to fill their home grown quota ), but with Everton asking for in excess of £30m, signing Rüdiger may make perfect season.
