In the last couple of weeks, there has been many reports in the media of Chelsea’s interest in one centre back to the other. Everton’s John Stones has been linked the most which made many believe the young Englishman is Chelsea’s main target for this summer transfer window.
That assertion however seems wrong as news reports have emerged and it is stated that Chelsea’s main target in the centre back position is in fact not John Stones but instead Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane. This report was revealed by very reliable Daily mail journalist Neil Aston.
According to Neil Aston, the Blues made an early enquiry for Varane even before the 2014/2015 season ended which was turned back by Real Madrid who made it clear that the France national team defender is not available on the market.
According to Neil, it was after the Blues’ move for Varane was rejected that they went for other targets which reportedly included VFB Stuttgart’s Antonio Rüdiger, Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones.
Chelsea have had three bids rejected for Stones. According to reports in the last few days, the Blue have had bids of 20 million, 24 million and 30 million rejected for the centre back but are willing to put in a fourth and final bid said to be in the region of 40 million.
