According to recent sources, it is being claimed that our Belgian loanee goal keeper Thibaut Courtois might decide in the next few weeks to extend his loan spell at Vicente Calderon for the 4th year running. It is thought that Courtois deems it a mission impossible to get the amount of playing time he wants as Petr Cech is in his way at Stamford Bridge.
Now, according to Goal.com, the Belgian is about to decide his future in the next week and is close to announcing his option of remaining one more year at the Vicente Calderon.
Goal has learned that a meeting regarding Courtois’ future took place earlier this week and the groundwork of a deal is now in place for him to extend his spell with Atletico.
Courtois is believed to be unwilling to link up permanently with his parent club for an entire campaign if he cannot be assured of first-team football. -Goal.com
The Belgian stopper has earlier this year denied rumors that he might join arch-rivals of Atletico, Real Madrid on a permanent deal following the end of his loan stint. He assured that he will play for Atletico or Chelsea depending on the amount of game time that is given to him.
And Petr Cech’s good form this season coupled with the fact that the Czech international is still young for a goal keeper and has a contract until 2016 guarantees Courtois may not get the no. 1 role at Stamford Bridge any time soon. But, Jose Mourinho will have to pull out one of his management magics to get the best out of both of them coexisting happily helping the team in all competitions.
