Antonio Conte Targets Signing Of 31-Year Old Centre Forward
Every Chelsea fan knows the club is in trouble if by chance Alvaro Morata has to miss several weeks of action. Although we have Michy Batshuayi, the Belgian is simply not good enough to carry all the goal scoring burden on himself in the absence of Morata.
Hence latest chelsea roundup has linked the club with the signing of one striker to the other. In recent weeks, it was Ciro Immobile of Lazio that has been linked. The former Dortmund player has been one of Serie A best strikers so far this season however it is very unlikely that Lazio will let him go midway into the season.
And it seems Chelsea manager Antonio Conte knows this and is considering his options. To this end, reports have it that the Italian is ready to make an offer for Arsenal’s striker Olivier Giroud to act at back up to Morata. The Frenchman has found starting berths hard to come by at Arsenal this season after the Gunners signed Alexandre Lacazette from Olympic Lyonnais in the summer.
Giroud was last summer thought to be on his way out of the Emirates with the likes of Everton, West ham and Olympic Marseille all linked with his signing. He in the end decided to remain at Arsenal but could consider leaving in the winter transfer window if he continues to be benched. But do Chelsea really need him? Giroud is a good goal scorer and his hold up play is superb but for a club challenging for the title, Giroud is certainly not good enough.
He should do well at clubs such as Crystal Palace, Everton and their likes but not at a club like Chelsea. If we are to sign any Arsenal player, it should be Alexis Sanchez. Although Sanchez is not an out and out striker, he is certainly a good goal scorer and can replace Morata in attack if need be. And aside the fact that he will be a good replacement for Morata if/when the Spaniard is injured, he will also be a massive upgrade on both Pedro and Willian on the wings. He can play both on the left and right flanks which means he and Hazard can easily interchange positions in-match.
Imagine an attack line with Morata, Hazard and Sanchez as the arrowhead and Cesc Fabregas and the others creating chances for them? Conte can make it possible especially considering Sanchez’s contract saga ongoing at Arsenal at the minute.
