Ashley Cole charged by FA over Twitter outburst

Chelsea fullback Ashley Cole has been slapped with a misconduct charge by the Football Association following his foul-mouthed Twitter rant.

The Chelsea defender called the FA a ‘bunch of t***s’ on the social networking site (Twitter) on Friday after the governing body’s independent regulatory commission investigating the John Terry race case cast doubt over his evidence.

Cole later deleted his offensive tweet and apologized, but only after it was re-tweeted more than 19,000 times, Di Matteo said: “We’ll look at the tweet and then we’ll see. Apart from this, I don’t think the players are out of control.”

The Chelsea defender retweeted criticism of former England striker Alan Shearer and Match of the Day pundit after he called for the left-back to be omitted from the next Three Lions squad.

The retweeted message referred to an incident in 1998, when Shearer, then England captain, escaped a ban after kicking Leicester play Neil Lennon in the head.

Also, Rio Ferdinand insulted Ashley on this Twitter. Funnily enough, nobody is saying anything about that.

A statement on their website said: “Chelsea FC’s Ashley Cole has been charged by The FA in relation to a Twitter comment which was improper and/or brought the game into disrepute.”

The England international has until 4pm on Thursday to respond to the charge.

Cole was about to celebrate his 100th cap with England but reports suggest that if he is found guilty, Cole could be banned for at least one of those games as part of his punishment.

He may have misjudged the situation and lost control of himself because no one would accept this, but the FA accused him of perjury. If the FA want to be fair they should also ban Van Persie for elbowing Cabaye & Rio Ferdinand for insulting Cole… but of course they won’t.
