Chelsea Should Make Move for Fulham Left-Back Ryan Sessegnon

If there is one player who Chelsea should make a move for, it is Fulham left-back Ryan Sessegnon.

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic aptly described Sessegnon when he said that the player is “a mix between Marcelo and Gareth Bale”.

Despite being only 18, Sessegnon has played 82 first-team games for the Cottagers since making his debut in 2016 and he is also a goalscoring defender as he has 23 goals to his name.

The youngster is destined for big things at the highest level and if he has a decent season in the Premier League during the upcoming campaign, it will be easy to see him breaking into the England team. As the first-choice left-back position for the Three Lions is currently occupied by 33-year-old Ashley Young, it is perhaps arguable to say that Sessegnon could go to gain this position in the near future.

Based at the rate of his progression, Sessegnon will not remain with the Cottagers for long unless he has a disastrous season during the upcoming campaign.

If Sessegnon is in decent form, he will at most probably remain at Fulham for another season. It is perhaps a good decision to stay at Fulham for the upcoming season as it will allow him the opportunity to get used to playing in the Premier League at a club where he is already comfortable and where he is certain to get regular first-team minutes.

Chelsea should swoop for the youngster. Now would even be a decent time to do so. If Sessegnon has a decent season during the upcoming campaign, his price will sky-rocket.

Perhaps Maurizio Sarri’s staff should look into making a bid this summer and sending him back on loan to Fulham for the next season.

It would be a great investment for the future.
