Done Deal: Chelsea Legend Announced As Club Director – To Decide On Falcao Fate
In what will sound as a good and fantastic news to Chelsea fans, report has it that Stamford Bridge legend Claude Makelele has been appointed as the new Technical Director of Ligue One side AS Monaco.
The former France defensive midfielder unarguably had his best football career with Chelsea during his five years spell with the Blues.
Makelele was known for his tough tackling prowess and ability to cover up the centre defenders properly.
Speaking concerning the new contract, the legend claims he is happy for the new career choice and hope to help the Ligue One giant qualify for champons league next season.
“I am very happy to join this important club in French football and in Europe,” he said.
“My meeting with Vadim Vasilyev was vital in my desire to join AS Monaco and this project based on the long-term. It is a new stage in my career and I am convinced that the new role of Technical Director fits me perfectly and will enable me to continue to progress.
“I am excited about the idea of working with a manager of such quality as Leonardo Jardim and with a promising squad.
“Monaco are looking to qualify for the Champions’ League every year and I will work hard to help them achieve their aims.”
Before leaving Chelsea to join PSG in 2008, the powerful midfielder helped the blues to won the Premiership title back-back, Football League Cup, FA Cup, and the Community Shield Cup.
He also helped the Blues to reach the of the Prestigious UEFA Champions League in 2008 in which they were defeated by Manchester United in a penalty-shootout.
Makelele could play an active part in decideing whether Falcao will return back to Monaco this January or remain with the Blues till the end of the season.
