How Long Will New Chelsea’s New Manager Last?

Chelsea’s new manager could already be on limited time – even before they’ve been appointed.

With Blues legend Frank Lampard stepping into the dugout until the end the season, the bookmakers are currently unable to decide who Chelsea’s next permanent manager will be.

Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique seem to be the frontrunners for the role, but according to a new study, the appointment could prove to be a poisoned chalice.

According to a new study by Buzz Casino, Chelsea managers can expect to be in the post for a little over a year at best. While this would surpass Graham Potter’s 206 days in charge, it’s still some way short of providing job security.

The study examined each Premier Premier League club’s last five head coaches to see just how long a manager is expected to last in England’s top flight, with the Blues providing the seventh-shortest tenure on average – clocking in at just 489 days, against a league average of 774 days.

With the Abramovich era coming to an end, many Chelsea fans would’ve hoped Todd Boehly’s stewardship would’ve brought some stability to Stamford Bridge. But, with Potter shown the door in his first season and Lampard brought back on a short-term basis, the managerial merry-go-round looks set to continue.

Still, the Blues didn’t fare as poorly as some of their Premier League rivals, with Everton providing the least managerial job security, with an average length of service standing at just 341 days – the only club with an average of less than a full year.

Buzz’s full study reveals that the ten clubs with with lowest average length of service in days are:

  1. Everton – 341

  2. Nottingham Forest – 381

  3. Leeds United – 418

  4. Crystal Palace – 450

  5. Wolverhampton Wanderers – 475

  6. Southampton – 480

  7. Chelsea – 489

  8. Aston Villa – 494

  9. Fulham – 579

  10. Tottenham Hotspur – 659
