Michael Essien is close to finalising a move to AC Milan despite a late enquiry from West Ham.
The Ghana international is keen on a move abroad and his agents held lengthy talks with the Serie A club on Thursday as they look to agree terms. The 31-year-old was also considered by West Ham as they continue to weigh up midfield options.
The midfielder is expected to be released on a free transfer and will join the Rossoneri on an 18-month deal.
A statement on the club’s official website, said: “Just turned 31 and with a CV including domestic and Champions League wins, as well as victory with the Ghana national side, Michael Essien is expected to land at Malpensa Airport (Milan) this evening.”

A team player right there. He didn’t score much, but when he did, they were incredible. Best wishes to him over in Italy and in Brazil. Hope he stays long enough to play against Stoke since Mourinho said that he will play if he hasn’t left beforehand. Essien playing at home against Stoke will be a fantastic way to congratulate the fans and for the fans to congratulate him for his years of service.
