According to Daily Mail, Chelsea will sign Samuel Eto’o on a stunning £7million one-year deal on Thursday after admitting defeat in their pursuit of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.
Eto’o, the 32-year-old Cameroon forward, is taking a huge pay cut from the £17m a year that made him the world’s best paid footballer at Anzhi Makhachkala and will sign on a free transfer.
However, Anzhi are understood to have sweetened the deal by giving Eto’o a multimillion pound lump sum to get him off their wage bill.
Jose Mourinho has almost admitted defeat in the Blues’ pursuit to sign English forward Wayne Rooney and as he said Chelsea will close in on their 2nd option if Rooney decides to stay.
Eto’o arrived at London’s St Pancras station on Wednesday night and is due to have a medical at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground before finalizing terms after his advisers held talks on Wednesday.
Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho, a confirmed Eto’o admirer, turned to his Plan B after United steadfastly refused to sell Rooney.
This deal might signal the imminent departure of Demba Ba who is a rumored target for AS Roma. Another player to depart Stamford Bridge on-loan might be Nigerian Victor Moses as Liverpool and some other premier league clubs are looking for a season long loan for the winger.
This will be a good news to Jose and all Chelsea fans as Eto’o even thought in his early 30s at 32 will prove to be an important asset to our striking department as he can operate in a lot of positions up front. And the relationship he maintains with the Special One will mean that Eto’o might get into grove early on without needing a time to settle in his new environment.

We lost out on Rooney,but we have Willian,why not just sell Ba and let Moses stay,cos Moses have a lot to offer and he’s very young. This is the same mistake we made for Sturridge.
Sturridge is one of the best striker in PL,young and skillful. Yet,we sold him to get Ba who is 29.

I can’t think of any other striker in EPL that is as experienced and exposed as Etoo! He is a good buy! With our midfield loaded with Hazard, Willian, Schurrle(speed machines) Oscar, De Bryne, Mata etc. I can only imagine d devastating effect on opponents…

Fans don’t see the big picture here. Eto is a proven finisher. Forget about his age (isn’t RVP 31?) he is a confident striker and a hard worker. For me he is a better version of Rooney who won’t destabilise the future of our young strikers as he will be sold of next season anyway. Oh he can also play left and right midfield too, in case y’all don’t know
