Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s Best Opportunities Lie Away from Stamford Bridge
Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek established himself as one of the brightest young players last season as he helped Crystal Palace avoid relegation. He impressed to such an extent that he was included in the England squad that reached the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup.
Loftus-Cheek has been linked with loan moves to the likes of Everton, Newcastle United, as well as a return to Crystal Palace, throughout the summer. In the end, he has chosen to remain at Stamford Bridge and try to fight for a place in the first team.
Loftus-Cheek has the potential to become one of the Premier League’s top midfielders; however, his chances of regular first-team action for the Blues this season do not look good.
He was restricted to a cameo appearance during the Blues’ opening game of this season’s Premier League campaign against Huddersfield and was not even included in the matchday squad for last weekend’s match against Arsenal.
A report published by the Daily Mirror has claimed that Loftus-Cheek is pushing for a loan move to Spain before the end of the month as his first-team chances at Stamford Bridge under Maurizio Sarri look slim. Sarri brought in the likes of Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic to bolster his midfield options and it also appears that Ross Barkley is ahead of Loftus-Cheek in the club’s pecking order.
Loftus-Cheek will rightfully be concerned about the current situation as it could put his chances of being called up to England in the near future in doubt.
The 22-year-old has two choices. He can either remain at his boyhood club and try to force his way back into first-team reckoning. His other option is to push for a loan move. Crystal Palace will be the ideal destination and it is likely that Palace manager Roy Hodgson would be keen on a reunion as Loftus-Cheek helped his club to avoid the drop last term.
